Dr. Kwan Pak-Ming 關伯明博士, PhD; MBA; FHKCS
Dr. Kwan is a highly accomplished entrepreneur, business leader, and educator with more than 40 years of experience in the technology industry. With his extensive academic background and professional experience, Peter has established himself as a leader and expert in big data analytics.
Peter started his career in 1982, founding Expert System Company Ltd, a technology firm that had over 800 IT Professionals specialized in software development, systems integration, and consulting services. After building the company into a successful enterprise, it was acquired by Legend Holdings Ltd in 1994.
In 1997, Peter joined China INFOBANK Limited in Beijing as Executive Vice President, where he was responsible for managing the company’s business operations and developing strategic partnerships. During his tenure, Peter helped the company become one of the largest Chinese digital content providers and authoritative sources of PRC government information. He also established and managed strategic relationships with international news groups, including Financial Times, Reuters, and Dow Jones, by designing and supplying tailor-made data products for them.
With his passion for big data analytics, Peter established Big Data Architect Limited (BDA), a consultancy service company in 2014, to provide big data analytic consultancy and training services in Hong Kong, Macau, and Mainland China. Peter has served clients such as AIA Hong Kong, AIG, Leo Paper Group, and Television Broadcasts Limited, helping them leverage the power of big data to gain valuable insights into their operations.
Peter is also a highly respected educator, having taught Data Analytics at the University of Sunderland U.K (HK) as a part-time Lecturer since 2017. In 2019, he was appointed Professor of Practice by UOW College Hong Kong, where he continues to share his knowledge and experience in big data analytics with the next generation of business leaders. Peter has also delivered Big Data Management courses for the Institute of Human Resource Management (HK) and South China University of Technology.
In addition to his professional achievements, Peter is renowned for his expertise in delivering professional training in soft skills such as business networking, creativity, persuasive communication, and influence power. Over the years, he has provided training for more than 50,000 students in leading financial and insurance institutions in Hong Kong, including HSBC, Citibank, Charter Bank, AIA, and Prudential. His training programs have received high praise from participants, who credited him for enhancing their skills and professional development.
Peter’s professional memberships and credentials include being a Fellow of the Hong Kong Computer Society, President of the Hong Kong University Graduates Association (2019-2022), a former Member of the Court of The University of Hong Kong (2013-2019), a former Member of HKU Convocation Standing Committee (2010-2019), Chairman of the Big Data Hub Committee at Smart City Consortium, a Committee member of the Institute of Big Data Governance.
